
Zaara Biotech was founded in the college dorm of Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology by a group of students in 2016, who dared to dream of a future with improved quality of life for the entire world.
The company aimed to develop innovative techniques to combat malnutrition and enrich living standards.
At present Zaara Biotech specializes in nutritious food with its wide assortment of products delivered across different parts of the world.
In addition to the marvellous range of products, the company designs and manufactures sustainable environmental solutions based on advanced technology with quality intertwined at each step.
Milestones
2017
The first milestone in this journey was the setting up of a center for mushroom culture, an initiative to fund further research on alternative food sources.
The company developed a one of its kind, Carbon trapping photobioreactor system based on algae in mid‐2017 which received the best project award in several design competitions. It also secured the team, an opportunity to visit the CSIR‐ Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) at Mysuru in June of the same year, to study algal culturing and the team was introduced to several researches in the field of Algal technology.
2018
In the June of 2018, Zaara coordinated with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR‐CIFT) at Cochin to research advanced product development.
This resulted in the development of B‐lite Spirulina cookies which were launched in October at ICAR Headquarters, Delhi. It was the first commercial product developed by the company and received the best innovative product award from SRM University Chennai.
In October, Zaara developed a Dioxin detection system based on image profiling for the detection and analysis of Dioxin levels in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and essential hygiene products such as napkins.
2019
Blite was exhibited at the Global Goals Model United Nations (GGMUN) conference held in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and was recognized as the best innovation in the field of biotechnology in the goal‐ 3 (Good health and wellbeing) categories.
In July, Zaara Biotech was incorporated becoming an independent legal entity for the first time.
The B2B platform was also launched in July at Infopark cochin, to provide healthy balanced diets to people employed in the IT sector.
In September, the online store “www.blitestore.com” was launched to provide the netizens throughout the country, access to Zaara’s innovative products.
In December, the first international consignment of Blite was exported to Saudi Arabia marking the first step in the company’s journey towards international recognition.
2020
During the onset of the Covid‐19 global pandemic, Zaara biotech collaborated with the Believers Church Medical College, Thiruvalla to develop Vent 2.0 Portable ventilator on a war‐footing to aid in the treatment of patients suffering from contagion.
In October, a new production plant for the manufacture of Blite Spirulina cookies adhering to international standards of quality and safety with state-of-the-art equipment were inaugurated, at Pathanamthitta.
2021
In February, Blite was exhibited at Gulfood, the world’s largest annual food and beverage trade exhibition 2021 and secured a strategic investment of 10 million USD for the expansion of the company to Dubai.
